Day 075

March 20, 2011

“DOF Comparison of Flowers”

I took a photo in the same spot of the same bush of flowers. I wanted to see the difference between each of the f-stops to compare the bokeh from f1.4 to f5 with a 50mm 1.4 Lens

March 19, 2011

“The Original”

This is the longest ORIGINALLY operated McDonalds in the world! This is in my hometown in Downey, Ca where I grew up as a kid. It’s still there! I don’t eat fast food at all, but I thought this was cool that it’s still resides there. I would have spent more time on a better photograph, but it was getting late, I had my daughter and too many cars in the parking lot to maneuver around.

The 1953 McDonald’s restaurant at 10207 Lakewood Blvd. (at Florence Ave.) was the third franchised McDonald’s built and is the oldest surviving McDonald’s. It was listed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 1994 list of the 11 Most Endangered Historic Places.

March 9, 2011

“Lonely Lifetower”

I was cruising down PCH earlier and it was so pretty out! However the lighting was at 12pm so as you know – the worst time to shoot pictures! But I had to be somewhere by 1:00pm…. I liked this lighthouse… it was neon green! 🙂

“Neon Food Coloring is FUN!”

Didn’t know what to do for my photo today. I was staring at my bedroom floor where lie empty water bottles that didn’t make it to the recycle. I was playing with food coloring yesterday so that hit in my mind and here we are. Its not exactly what I wanted but time was running out and Im super tired.
Speedlite 580EXII was lit under and up behind the water bottles against a white foam board. Another white foam board is under it with a piece of plexiglass.

Day 059

March 4, 2011

“The dolphin appeared”

High Speed Sync – Stopping water can make amazing things appear… can you find the dolphin?

Used a Speedlite 580EX-II off camera slightly to the left with a blue gel. Two lights on either side of the white plate slightly behind it and white foam board behind. I added pinkish purple food coloring in the water because the water clear color was coming out too light. If I tweaked the contrast a bit, you could see it, but I actually liked how the food coloring came out!

I zoomed into this photo and it looks like a dolphin is coming out of the water… I think its the coolest thing in the world!!! I couldn’t do that if I TRIED!

March 1, 2011

“A day of Film”

I had to do my assignment today with my film camera for school so it was out from earlier. I am working in the darkroom a few times a week developing Black and White photos with my old but VERY perfect condition Minolta SRT – 201 w/ a Rokkor 50mm 1.4 lens. I wanted to get a photo of my film camera for my digital 365 project. I wanted to add the antique look because the camera is from the late 70’s early 80’s.

“Flying Free”

It’s been raining a lot lately, was supposed to snow actually today… but it was SO beautiful out – beautiful, clear, windy, and cold but most of all a gorgeous day in Marina del Rey. I miss it so much here, it’s been 10 years since I lived here on the yacht. I need to get back to sailing my #1 passion!

“A bed of sick”

Woke up not feeling well, had to get up at 5am to drive to Bellflower Court House, School, Massage, so naturally its a LAZY pic day, not feeling so hot so this is reflected in my low maintenance shot! Made my hair a little messier and warped my face a little to make it more sickly… LOL

I have now put the comments and labels on each of the items. FLICKR PIC HERE Enjoy!

“A Splash of H2O”

I wanted to try this for a while. I am limited on lighting so I did what I could… 2 tungsten lamps, Plexiglass, White Foam Board, and 1 Speedlite 580EX-II with CTO to correct for the tungsten lighting and used high speed sync. I poured a bottle of water into the wine glass.

Day 047

February 20, 2011

“The Wizard”

This is a statue that has been in my parents house since I was a kid… its so strange… anyway because its a wizard and has stars I decided to cut out a star and create a star shaped hood for the lens to get the star bokeh in the background. I used my Speedlite 580EX-II offcamera to just barely light the statue to give it an eerie look.

Day 046

February 19, 2011

“Turtle Butterfly Bokeh Lights”

Okay so this didn’t get where I wanted it to, due to space. I went as far back as I could with the 50mm 1.4 lens but the butterflies didn’t come out. I had to take 2 steps back and at that point the butterflies in the lights came out but it was hand held and no room for tripod… (need a bigger living room???)

So now I know I CAN do it, I will play around more with it tomorrow. I wanted to get a picture before 12am…. so this will have to do. 🙂

Below was the intended bokeh effect…

Day 036

February 9, 2011

“S&W”

My Smith & Wesson Extreme Ops Knife was in my camera bag from last night (hiking at night) so I pulled it out and lit it up.

I had no time to do much more than this tonight so I lit the knife around the edges with an LED light left out from yesterday. Then I took a second shot and painted in the knife with a light because it was too dark. I used a flashlight with a cone on the top to prevent spilling any unwanted light.

Merge in CS5 – erase unwanted noise and there ya go. The noise wasn’t much when you use the long exposure noise reduction. Only problem is waiting for it to develop. Makes a HUGE difference though.

“Bionic Girl”

Had to have an x-ray on my spine today to make sure I didn’t break the hardware in my back (yeah all clear!) so I took a photograph of the xray and myself and put my xray of my spine on me to show through… have a way cooler idea for this actually but I don’t have 8 hours to play around on photoshop so this is my quick version. You can see my ADR (Artificial Disc) and fusion. Fun stuff! Bionic Girl!
